I’ve always been fascinated by this song, as per Paul Anka. It’s something about its atmosphere, its feeling: “The eerieness and melancholia, really undermining the rather saccharine lyrics. I persuaded my wife to sing the soprano part, which she did just fine. In another life ALIEN FRIEND played guitar and sang in the Swedish band REDMOON. This is his solo project. During 2021 and 2022 ARN-IDENTIFIED FLYING OBJECTS and ALIEN FRIENDS released a string of singles and a double album. The latter, co-produced by legendary David Myhr (from the Merrymakers) brings together elements of power pop, folk and indie rock. There’s no nostalgia, though many of the songs might be rooted in musical soil of the sixties and the seventies. The lyrics are heartfelt and poetic, sometimes ironic, but contemporary and always honest.
With NO SWEETS FOR E., the full-length album from 2023, the project dug deeper in the soils of the fifties. The forthcoming singles – and an album – will examine new musical directions. Or old: Many of the tunes will echo of Swedish folk music. YOUR LOVE (the flipside of SING-ALONG SONGS) is an oddity in the repertoire. The tune is a rather unknown gem written and recorded by a very young Paul Anka.
