Dax "Man I Used To Be" Original Single 01/Aug/25
In “Man I Used To Be,” Dax doesn’t just revisit his past, he excavates it. Released on August 1st, 2025, the track is a raw, acoustic-laced confession that trades bravado for vulnerability. It’s not a reinvention; it’s a reckoning. After six months of sobriety, Dax emerges with a voice that’s steadier, clearer, and more intentional. The result is a song that feels less like a performance and more like a prayer.

Produced by Jimmy Robbins, the instrumentation is stripped to its emotional bones: a steady guitar line, subtle gospel undertones, and a mix that leaves space for Dax’s voice to breathe. His delivery oscillates between quiet introspection and pulpit-like urgency, especially when he confronts “generational curses,” heartbreak, and addiction. The opening line, “I’m half the man I used to be / It’s gon’ take some getting used to me”, lands with the weight of someone who’s finally stopped running.
The accompanying video, directed by Logan Meis, reinforces the song’s spiritual arc. A group walks a rural path toward a church, symbolizing collective healing. It’s not just his story, it’s ours, too.
With the “Lonely Dirt Road Tour” on the horizon, Dax isn’t just promoting a song; he’s inviting listeners into a movement. “Music for the people, spread by the people,” he says, and this track proves he means it. “Man I Used To Be” isn’t just a checkpoint in his discography; it’s a declaration that growth is messy, sacred, and worth sharing.
