Coma Beach, a punk rock collective from Würzburg, Germany, returns with a compelling and cathartic EP, Passion/Bliss (2025), the third and final chapter in their Scapegoat Revisited triptych. This five-track collection marks a milestone for the band, commemorating the 30th anniversary of their debut The Scapegoat’s Agony (1995), and delivers on their signature promise of raw emotion, chaos, and musical rebellion.

From the onset, Passion/Bliss delivers high-octane energy. Tracks like “(nothing right)” and “The Final Door” capture the band’s ethos; unapologetically brash, aggressive, and fiercely cathartic. Lead singer B. Kafka’s impassioned vocals blend freely with Captain A. Fear’s explosive guitar riffs, and the rhythm section, helmed by drummer M. Lecter and bassist U. Terror, anchors the EP with relentless intensity. The EP’s title track, “Passion,” exemplifies Coma Beach’s ability to wield tension and release, while “Bliss” explores vulnerability amidst their chaotic soundscapes, offering a rare but striking glimpse of emotional depth.

Drawing influence from punk stalwarts like the Sex Pistols and Hüsker Dü, as well as alternative icons like Joy Division and The Jesus and Mary Chain, Passion/Bliss effortlessly navigates the boundaries between punk rock and alt-rock, showcasing a diverse range of musical textures. The EP maintains the anthemic punk spirit while going thoroughly into themes of loneliness, fury, and existential struggle or isolation. It does this by fusing personal reflection while maintaining the anthemic punk spirit.

As Coma Beach’s final statement in the Scapegoat trilogy, Passion/Bliss is not just a record; it’s an experience. One that’ll leave listeners both exhausted and exhilarated, yet ready for the next chapter in this fearless band’s journey.
