Paola Prestini, an Italian-born composer and multimedia artist, is the founder of New York City’s interdisciplinary performance art collective, Vision Into Art (VIA). Raised in Mexico and a graduate of Juilliard, she’s known for her minimalist and avant-garde style. Prestini recently collaborated with electro-acoustic duo Nelson Patton on the release of “Rites and Rituals.” This captivating piece incorporates field recordings, trombones, voice, drums, and electronic elements, creating a dramatic and cinematic atmosphere.
In fact, Prestini describes it as a “non-visual film score” from her album called “Ancient City,” where the invisible story unfolds through the rhythms of nature and the cycle of day and night. The track “Rites and Rituals” stands out with its bold and powerful brass textures, driven by a drifting and syncopated rhythm. The tune exudes an imminent and slightly menacing mood, making it an essential part of the album. Recorded at Bone Hollow Recording with Dave Nelson mixing and Tyler McDiarmid mastering, this unique album features compositions, and vocals by Prestini while also showcasing the talents of artists like Marlon Patton on drums and percussion alongside presto trombonist Dave Nelson.
At a standing 4 minutes 45 seconds, the track boasts of weighty brass textures inter-weaved with syncopated rhythms seamlessly making ” Rites And Rituals”, a jazz-styled, instrumentally gripping song that soaks a sense of imminent tension, making for an unforgettable experience you cannot afford to miss!
