RISE wastes no time reminding listeners why their music deserves attention. On “Hard To Leave You,” the Liverpool band delivers a brisk, guitar driven performance that moves with purpose from its opening seconds through its 3 minute, 57 second runtime.
Originally released in 2024 on the Memories and Possibilities EP, “Hard To Leave You” returns in the form of the Barbarian Mix, a version the band says better holds the energy and aggression of the song in a live setting. That difference is immediately noticeable. The track feels pressing, bright and remarkably catchy, while the stacked harmonies give the vocals a fuller presence.
At the center of the arrangement is Brian Petch’s guitar work. Detailed without overwhelming the song, his playing adds character to every turn, giving the record much of its movement and personality. The production, handled by Rob Whiteley and Paul Kinley and recorded at Whitewood Studios in Liverpool, keeps the band sounding tight while allowing those individual elements to breathe.
On the lyrics, “Hard To Leave You” explores the tension between holding on and walking away. Lines such as “Hard to leave you, harder still to stay” frame the emotional dilemma with striking simplicity, while the song’s repeated refrain reinforces the confusion at its heart. It is a familiar feeling, but RISE gives it enough musical lift to make the experience feel immediate.
Kinley says working with Whiteley has helped the band preserve its distinctive sound. “He has a way of capturing the band’s overall sound which is really important to us,” he explains. With “Hard To Leave You,” RISE proves that a remix can do more than revisit a song. It can reveal what was waiting inside it all along.
