On January 19, 2024, My Glass World unveiled their latest album, ‘Assorted Marvels,’ under the banner of Luxury Noise Records. This rollercoaster of emotions unfolds across eleven tracks, forming a musical treasure trove that deeply stirs the heart and soul.

The album opens strongly with “White Out,” immediately setting a driving tone with pulsating rhythms as Jamie’s distinctly rough yet emotive voice grabs your attention. As you progress through the album’s assorted gems, the duo reveals impressive range, seamlessly shifting gears from the lively sax-stomp of “Genghis Khan” to the haunting melancholy of “Citizen of Nowhere.”

A true highlight is the soaring “Everybody Here They Come” which features the magnificent guest vocals of Ruby Barker. Her part intertwines seamlessly with Sean’s baritone sax, conjuring up nostalgic 60’s textures with the help of a pedal called the Fuzzy Beetle.

Assorted Marvels: A Musical Journey

While Assorted Marvels brings plenty of fresh ideas to the table, much credit is due to the symbiotic musical relationship between Telford and Read. Most tracks were first penned by Telford during a rural sabbatical in Scotland. Then the songs were perfected by Read’s production flourishes added later on in his London studio. This organic approach lends the album an authentic feel, like a wild garden given a spot of weeding and a fresh polish.

Both topical and timeless, the songwriting also shines with clever touches. As Telford shares regarding the single “Everybody Here They Come,” the title playfully references a line by James Joyce to give the song “more gravitas than it might otherwise presume.” Yet the surrounding lyrics speak to the emotional realities of the times with philosophical flair.

By the album’s end, it’s clear that “Assorted Marvels” lives up to its namesake. Each track stands alone as a resplendent jewel yet also contributes radiance to the full experience. My Glass World has honed its signature layered sound while proving it still has creative depths left to mine. Let this rich album cast its spell over you.
