- “Writing this song was like therapy for me and I love the energy and what we have created together.” – Flynn
Andrew Flynn is a singer and songwriter who has teamed up with Connor Speechly, a music producer, to create some music together. The duo’s main influences include Erasure, George Michael, REM, and The Weekend, among others. Flynn’s singles, EPs, and albums were recorded in a local studio in Hartlepool with just himself and Connor.
“Narcissist,” spans a length of three minutes and twenty seconds is a song that narrates Andrew’s personal experience with a highly relatable and devastating case of unrequited love towards a narcissist. The lyrics reflect the artist’s journey of self-discovery and growth following heartbreak. While the words may convey a sense of distress, the music embodies resilience and progress, creating a nuanced emotional landscape. The song unfolds with engaging and infectious 80s synthpop tunes, immediately capturing attention. A distant yet powerful energy emanates from the tapping drums, setting the stage for what’s to come.
As Andrew’s vocals kick in, they carry a thick layer of passion and emotion. Dripping with pain and surging with power, the artist declares,
“You Drew Me Into You Spell, I threw Myself Into Hell, See Through Your Lies, Helpless No Less, You don’t control me now,” with a sense of empowerment…
The song’s deep and moody atmosphere serves as an audible canvas that mirrors the intensity of the emotional journey it narrates. The aggressive undertones underscore the tumultuous nature of the experience, while the hopeful elements add a layer of resilience to the narrative. The balance between aggression and hope in the musical composition mirrors the duality of the narrative, creating a harmonious blend that keeps the listener engaged from start to finish.
Despite the obvious imperfections, “Narcissist” is a fun song that gives hope for future works.
