The Star Prairie Project is back with another album and this time they’re taking listeners on a wild ride through history (or maybe pre-history?). “The Shining Ones” explores the idea of an ancient secret society.

The album opens with a bang. “Dawnlight of The Gods” starts with a slow, haunting guitar line that explodes into full-blown psychedelic rock. Think Pink Floyd, but with a modern twist. Spooky vocals soon join the party, setting the mood for the album’s epic ride.

The Shining Ones tells the story of a secret society of shamanic priests believed to have existed alongside humanity since ancient times. These enigmatic beings shared their knowledge with early humans, helping them to survive and thrive. This heady concept is brought to life through Nolen Chew Jr.’s storytelling lyrics, which are then delivered with passion by vocalists Marcello Vieira and Sandrine Orsini.

Clocking in at nearly an hour, “The Shining Ones” is a long listen. But the good news is, the fourteen tracks offer a lot of variety. Fans of the band’s heavier side will love tracks like “Oh Ye Shining Ones” and “Where Did We All Come From?” – pure head-banging bliss with driving rhythms and high-octane guitar riffs.

However, the album isn’t all about shredding guitars. The Star Prairie Project also shows their softer side with beautiful, introspective moments. Tracks like “Music is Gnosis” and “I’ll Fly Away” showcase gorgeous melodies and sounds that will leave you wanting more. The album closes strong with “Twilight of Mankind,” a powerful track that leaves a lasting impression.

While the concept might seem a little out there for some listeners, The Star Prairie Project’s execution is nothing short of masterful. They seamlessly blend historical themes with powerful rock music, creating an album that is both intellectually stimulating and emotionally resonant.
