Released on June 14th, 2024, this collection of songs serves as a testament to the singer-songwriter’s ability to channel his personal struggles into soulful and relatable music.
The EP’s title track, “It’s Later Than You Think,” sets the tone with its somber yet captivating melodies and introspective lyrics. Gerdt’s delicate finger-picking and soulful vocals create a sense of intimacy as if he’s inviting listeners into the depths of his psyche. Lines like, “It’s later than you think, the sun is sinking low, the shadows growing long,” resonate with a profound sense of introspection and a recognition of life’s fleeting nature.
“Just Like Anybody” and “Off To See The Sun,” the two previously released singles, seamlessly blend into the EP’s narrative. The former is a raw and vulnerable exploration of mental health struggles, with Gerdt’s emotive vocals conveying a sense of shared experience: “I’m just like anybody, trying to find my way.” The latter offers a glimmer of hope amidst the darkness.
The bonus tracks, “Clearer View” and “Rest Your Tired Head,” recorded entirely live, add an extra layer of authenticity to the EP. Throughout the EP, Gerdt touches on themes of mental health, self-reflection, and the human experience. His lyrics are deeply relatable, he says “My lyrics and my music are almost always connected to my experiences of mental illness and my well-being” serving as a reminder that his music is not merely a collection of songs, rather a diary of his own lived experiences.
