Marseille-based group Baja Frequencia is composed of two producers and DJs, Azuleski and Goodjiu. Created from the two protagonists’ desire to do a hybrid set between live machine and home-made bootleg dj set for one of their “Cumbia Fusion” and “Global Bass” nights, the duo comes to life in 2013.

In 10 years of activity and through their various productions and collaborations (La Dame Blanche, MC Blimes Brixton, Skarra Mucci, Chocolate Remix…). The group has made its mark through its live performances and singular universe, mixing multiple influences such as Jamaican dancehall, juke, or even reggaeton and cumbia villera, all underpinned by big techno kicks and acidulous leads.

“La Caracúlica” is the third single from the ‘Fast & Purrious‘ EP, showcasing a unique fusion between the duo and their special guest, Chocolate Remix, a committed rapper, producer, and DJ. This reggaetón track was crafted through jam sessions using beat boxes, later refined on a computer.

The production of “La Caracúlica” is characterized by a blend of gloomy and acidulous tones, creating a captivating atmosphere. Chocolate Remix’s sharp lyrics harmonize with the music, often referencing a deeply capitalist extreme right-wing Argentine politician. The song also touches on the global trend towards a gentle return to authoritarianism and a retreat in social discourse.

With its thought-provoking lyrics and distinctive sound, “La Caracúlica” stands out as a powerful commentary on societal issues. The track’s fusion of reggaetón elements and the collaboration with Chocolate Remix adds depth and complexity to the overall composition. This single is a testament to the duo’s ability to create music that not only entertains but also sparks important conversations.
