“La vérité” by FORAY
In this new single, “La vérité,” Foray sings the truth between lightness and seriousness, the atmosphere is falsely acoustic and the emotion is genuine. The sensitive string arrangements and the groove-filled drums hold our breath, then eventually make us take off from our seat. The truth is a battle against depression, which makes us become a person who no longer coincides with themselves, this being who systematically questions everything, to the point of paralysis and the desire to end it all.
The Journey of Foray
Behind FORAY hides Xavier Feugray, a Norman singer-songwriter. It was after leaving art school in Le Havre that he abandoned his paintings to fully invest himself in music. In a self-taught manner, he writes, plays the guitar, sings his first songs, forms his own rock band, and performs on the Normandy music scene. Influenced by grunge, electro, as well as Leonard Cohen, Brassens, Gainsbourg, and Timber Timbre, his solo career began in 2015 under the name NORD.
After discovering FL Studio and Ableton Live, he composed “L’amour s’en va,” his first EP, which opened doors to French radio and press (France Inter playlist, Les Inrock Lab, Le Monde, and Libération talked about it). In 2017, he signed an artist contract with Columbia, but due to an absurd legal dispute with another “Nord,” he decided to change his name to FORAY in order to release his debut album.
In this context, “Grand TurnOver” remained confidential but was praised by his audience. With the support of his tour manager Uni-T and his musicians (Ludwig Brosch and Thierry Minot), Foray performed at various festivals such as Francofolies de la Rochelle and Montreal (winner of the Félix Leclerc Prize 2016), Inouïs du Printemps de Bourges, Paroles & Musiques, Alors chante!, the Franco-Ontarian festival in Ottawa, and opened for The Do, Izia, Pomme, Cali, Laura Cahen, Louise Attaque, Julien Doré, and Katerine.
After this experience, he became involved in cultural activities and organized songwriting workshops (lyrics and music on iPad) in middle schools, high schools, and prisons. Foray participated in music creation with theater companies (Le Chat Fouin, CieZ), embarked on writing an autobiographical story, and joined the “Chansons Primeurs” tour as well as the “Pierre Feuille Loup” tour, a children’s show by the Vibrants Défricheurs, as a visual artist.
He decided to take the path of independence and returned in 2022 with a new momentum. He first released “Les Remparts,” a self-produced debut single, followed by “Revenge porn” at the end of the year. The tone is raw, provocative, close to the punk-rock-electro aesthetic that he loves. In February 2023, he released the single “La dépendance,” followed by “La vérité” in June 2023, both also self-produced. Other singles will be released throughout the year before returning to the stage in 2024.
