Marking almost a decade as an independent artist, Richard Tyler Epperson continues to evolve, spotlighting his profound songwriting prowess. Following the release of his 4th album “A Wandering Mind” earlier this year, he unveiled “Christmastime” on December 4th, 2023, seamlessly mingling classic holiday charm with contemporary pop appeal.
Originally from Salt Lake City, Utah, Epperson has a long history in music. He learned to play the bass and keyboard at an early age, which laid the foundation for his do-it-yourself method. Despite being self-produced, his talent produces masterfully composed songs that have a strong dedication and sincere depth, making him one of Music Connection Magazine’s Top 25 Unsigned Artists of 2021.
“Christmastime” is a charming contribution to the canon of holiday music, bringing the captivating spirit of the season to a seamless close with a blend of modern pop attractiveness and timeless appeal. With a carefree and jovial opening, the song captivates listeners right away and captures the enchanting spirit of the holidays. A haunting ambiance is created by delicate keys and bells, conjuring beloved Christmas favorites.
Epperson’s musical finesse shines through in the track’s bouncy groove within the 2nd verse, infusing an inviting layer of playfulness, and preventing the song from becoming predictable. The carefully structured transition between verses and chorus underscores the song’s well-crafted architecture, maintaining an engaging rhythm throughout. A standout moment arises in the bridge, featuring a lo-fi break that cleverly conveys the image of a wintry storm, injecting an element of unpredictability and enhancing the song’s overall allure.
Drawing inspiration from classic Christmas tunes, Epperson aimed to capture the festive spirit and optimism synonymous with the holiday season. Describing his creative process, Epperson shares, “I’ve always loved Paul McCartney’s Wonderful Christmastime. I really wanted to incorporate a similar loud synthesizer sound to the second verse to give it that happy pop Christmas vibe. I wanted to write a Christmas song that really captured the positive vibe of the holiday season.”
As he connects intimately with his audience, “Christmastime” offers a refreshing, upbeat, and joyous addition to the holiday music landscape, inviting listeners to immerse themselves in its spirited charm and toe-tapping allure. Step into the enchanting world of “Christmastime,” where Richard Tyler Epperson’s festive new creation adds a distinctive and memorable note to the holiday repertoire.
