Space Owl‘s latest creation, “FLASK,” emerges as a captivating rock opus that spans over 6 minutes and 30 seconds, promising a nostalgic journey through a fusion of 80s rock, classic tones, and serene, relaxing melodies. Released on December 25th, 2023, this musical masterpiece showcases the band’s evolution since their formation in 2011, initiated by Ari Joshua, Bob Lovelace, John Ewing, and David Appelbaum.

“FLASK,” a showcase for Space Owl’s collective musical skill, has a rhythmic synergy between John Ewing on drums, Bob Lovelace on bass, and David Appelbaum on keyboards, driven by Ari Joshua’s virtuoso guitar performance. By combining their individual talents, each member creates a richly textured aural world that enthralls the listener from beginning to end.

The song’s path develops dynamically, starting with a fusion of lovely guitar and percussion parts that subtly add a hint of reggae vibes before returning to the original tempo. The vocals, which are introduced shortly after, harmonize with a new piano and guitar rhythm that takes center stage around the two-minute mark. The calm musical composition is perfectly complemented by the vocals, which dance with ease.

At approximately 4 minutes into the track, another vocal interlude emerges, riding the same wave of psychedelic, easy-listening melodies before seamlessly transitioning back to the instrumentation that carries the composition through to its conclusion.

As a kind of musical route, “FLASK” leads listeners through engaging melodies that move between different time signatures and key shifts, reflecting space and time. Space Owl creates a soundscape that is at once recognizable and surprisingly inventive by deftly fusing elements of classical music, jazz fusion, and prog rock.

Space Owl, with their decade-long journey, demonstrates an unyielding commitment to pushing musical boundaries. Their recent exploration into previously unreleased tracks showcases the band’s versatility, from Bob Lovelace’s reminiscent “Thunder and Lightning” to the diverse compositions of “Home,” “I Will Come To You,” and “Why Does Love Always Break Your Heart.” Ari Joshua’s visionary approach to composition, shaped by his experiences at The New School in NYC and collaborations with various artists, further underscores the band’s depth and creativity.

“FLASK” is now available for streaming and download across major platforms, inviting listeners to embark on an immersive musical expedition curated by Space Owl.
