“During the pandemic I worked as a health care worker. Families held vigil from outside windows and doors as their loved ones died but couldn’t hold their hands. I would drive home after shifts sobbing. After a hard shift I turned the radio on, then off again as it was telling me to feel the opposite of how I felt.
It made me realise sometimes the music we are exposed to is super happy and doesn’t really represent the grief and trauma that we all carry.
In August I was at the piano, anxious and not looking forward to Christmas. I thought, I don’t even feel like putting up the tree this year. It was the first time I’d ever felt like not doing Christmas and then I hit an A minor chord and sang the first line of Christmas Time.”Top of Form
