Hailing from Cork and working as a healthcare professional during the pandemic, Stacey K offers a moving take on the holiday season through her release, ‘Christmas Time.’
Since its launch on 21/11/21, this track continues to captivate listeners, transcending time with its enduring appeal. Spanning a runtime of 3 minutes and 54 seconds, it captures the essence of Christmas, fusing acoustic, contemporary pop, and alt-folk elements, delivering a serene and tranquil vibe. A perfect addition to any Christmas playlist, this song rekindles the festive spirit, warranting multiple replays.
The melodic composition stands as a testament to sheer beauty, enhanced by a brilliant decision to incorporate a theremin, adding a distinctive layer that immerses the listener deeper into the song’s allure.
Despite its initial release, “Christmas Time” remains as relevant today as it did upon its debut. Acknowledging that the holiday season isn’t uniformly joyous for everyone, the song carries an essential message of empathy, encouraging consideration for those experiencing different emotions during this time.
Stacey, in her own words, elaborates on the inspiration behind the song;
“During the pandemic I worked as a health care worker. Families held vigil from outside windows and doors as their loved ones died but couldn’t hold their hands. I would drive home after shifts sobbing. After a hard shift I turned the radio on, then off again as it was telling me to feel the opposite of how I felt.
It made me realise sometimes the music we are exposed to is super happy and doesn’t really represent the grief and trauma that we all carry.
In August I was at the piano, anxious and not looking forward to Christmas. I thought, I don’t even feel like putting up the tree this year. It was the first time I’d ever felt like not doing Christmas and then I hit an A minor chord and sang the first line of Christmas Time.”Top of Form
